Kanagasingam Yogesan
Dr Yogesan is Foundation Chair and Professor in e-Medicine and the Managing Director of the Centre of Excellence in e-Medicine in Australia. This is the only such Centre of Excellence in Asia and Pacific Region established in collaboration with the Government, Edith Cowan University and University of Western Australia.
Professor Yogesan is also a Senior Research Fellow of the National Health and Medical Research Council in Australia.
He has published over 85 peer-reviewed research papers in the field, and has been awarded more than $20 million in funding from various sources. He has strong record in translation of research findings into clinical practice. Dr Yogesan has obtained 6 patents in the fields of ophthalmology, otolaryngology, dentistry and dermatology, which attest to his multidisciplinary expertise. He has developed "unique" low-cost, easy-to-operate miniaturised diagnostic devices, online clinical training programs and diagnostic systems. Some of these technologies have rolled out to clinicians. He has introduced new digital technologies into rural eye screenings which can be operated by nurses and screened more than 5000 people in rural and remote WA for blinding eye conditions.
He is a member of the American Telemedicine Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, IEEE Computer Society, SPIE and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Society for Telemedicine and e-Health. His multi-disciplinary expertise extends from medicine, e-medicine, electronic engineering, and biomedical engineering to computer science.
